Tuesday 14 October marked World Standards Day where international standards are recognized as the foundation for collaboration, quality and inclusion.
At Aliro Docs we work daily with IT accessibility and digital documents. Standards play a central role in this work. By following and contributing to the development of web and document standards, we ensure that information can be accessed by everyone - regardless of ability.
Examples are:
- EN 301 549 - the European standard for digital accessibility, based onthe WCAG guidelines.
- ISO 19005 (PDF/A) - designed for long-term archiving and preservation of electronic documents.
- ISO 14289 (PDF/UA) - International requirements for accessible PDF documents.
Behind these standards is both legislation and a strong community working for digital inclusion. Our involvement in standardization allows us to contribute to solutions that make everyday life easier - not just for people with disabilities, but for everyone.
World Standards Day reminds us that standards are not an end in themselves. They are a tool to create equal access to knowledge, services and digital solutions.
